Nitte (Deemed to be University) demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability through a comprehensive Green Campus framework implemented across its ~150+ acre multi-campus environment. The university has established robust water management systems, including rainwater harvesting capacities exceeding 450,000 litres per heavy rainfall event and sewage treatment infrastructure with a combined capacity of over 1.45 million litres per day, enabling 100% wastewater treatment and reuse for landscaping and non-potable applications. Campus biodiversity initiatives have resulted in the documentation of 1,600+ plant species, 900+ trees and woody shrubs, and 90+ bird species, supported by native landscaping and a 6,500 sq. ft. Miyawaki forest. With approximately 24% green cover, drought-tolerant planting, GIS-based tree audits, and structured sustainability awareness programmes, the university integrates environmental responsibility into infrastructure, operations, and community engagement, aligning campus development with long-term ecological resilience and sustainability goals.
