The Green Audit of Davangere University’s 73-acre campus established a clear sustainability profile and identified key environmental practices contributing to an eco-friendly and resource-efficient campus environment.
The audit evaluated core systems including natural resource conservation, waste streams, built environment impacts, campus ecosystem health, and institutional sustainability compliance, providing a pathway toward enhanced environmental performance.
Key achievements include:
Plastic-Free & Green Campus Initiatives:
The campus is officially declared a Plastic Free Campus, supported by ongoing awareness programs and systematic waste segregation practices for wet, dry, biomedical, and e-waste.
Water Conservation & Recharge Systems:
Rainwater harvesting and roof water conservation structures support groundwater recharge. Multiple bore wells supplement water needs, and landscaped water bodies help maintain local flora and fauna.
Waste Management Systems:
Solid waste is segregated and disposed scientifically, while hazardous and radioactive laboratory wastes are managed per regulatory guidelines. Plans for future wastewater treatment and recycling support garden irrigation are underway.
Green Cover & Landscaping:
A dedicated horticulture department maintains rich campus greenery, ornamental gardens, and plantings that enhance biodiversity and contribute to campus aesthetics and microclimate regulation.
Sustainable Mobility & Campus Culture:
Initiatives such as restricted automobile entry, bicycle and pedestrian-friendly walkways, and a focus on landscaping reinforce sustainable campus culture.
Institutional Alignment & Roadmap:
The audit underscores alignment with environmental management systems and quality audits, supporting regulatory compliance and providing actionable recommendations to improve long-term sustainability outcomes.
